Heat Supply in Oberviechtach
A local heating network was implemented in 2017 in the village of Oberviechtach, located in the Bavarian Forest. This network supplies several apartment buildings, single-family homes, and semi-detached houses in a new development area, as well as several nearby existing buildings, a building yard, and the volunteer fire department. The network was planned and implemented as a cold network.

Interaction between energy sources
A large solar system is available as a heat generator during the summer months. This supplies the network with water heated to 20–40°C during the summer months. The temperature level required for residential buildings is provided by decentralized heat pumps with integrated transfer stations installed in the houses.
The heat required for the winter period is provided by a wood chip heating system integrated into the heating center. During this period, the network operates at a temperature level of 60-70°C, the heat pumps are deactivated, and only the integrated classic district heating transfer stations transfer the heat to the buildings. The SiMon control software acts as an overarching energy management system, monitoring generation and consumption from the heating center.
